Katie Yao Morgan (2000) was born in Crawley (UK) and started playing the piano when she was four. In 2010 she won the ABRSM Sheila Mossman Memorial Prize and received a Gold Award in 2011. In 2010 she started at the Yehudi Menuhin School, where she studied with Marcel Baudet. In 2011 she won second prize at the Pianist of the North Competition and in 2014 she received ‘Mention of Honor’ at the International Piano Competition in Enschede. In 2016 Katie received the Diplôme de Jeune Espoir during the Adilia Alieva Competition in Annemasse. She has played at the Wimbledon Festival and toured throughout the UK. Katie attended summer courses in Tignes and Blonay with teachers such as Marcel Baudet, Edith Fischer and Jorge Pepi-Alos. She has attended masterclasses with Ronan O’Hora, Idil Biret and Ronald Brautigam and collaborated with prize-winning strings at the prestigious annual concert at Wigmore Hall. Katie forms the ‘Trio Pantoum’ with SongHa Choi (violin) and Maxim Calver (cello). The trio won the Intercollegiate Piano Trio Society Competition in 2018. In February, the trio toured the Netherlands and was also heard in the Spiegelzaal program (Radio 4). Katie has been studying with Frank Peters at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam since September 2018.
