BIOGRAPHY

Rik Kuppen (Veghel, 1994) obtained his master’s degree in 2017 at the Koninklijk Conservatoriumin The Hague with Ellen Corver. In his first year of study he won the national final of the Prinses Christina Concours, which during his entire study helped him intensively with concerts and tours in, among others, Mexico, Malta and Croatia. During his training, Rik became interested in the song repertoire. During the final of the Internationaal Vocalisten Concours in Den Bosch (2015) he won the prize for young talented song pianist, awarded by Rudolf Janssen. In October 2017, Rik won a final place in the Dutch Classical Talent Tour & Award. His tour through Dutch concert halls took place between September 18 and October 10, 2018. Together with violinists Laura Lunansky and Coraline Groen, cellist Rogier Tamminga and viola player Michiel Wittink, he started the piano quintet ‘De Formule’: a new ensemble that, in addition to the classical repertoire and the conservative concert format, also focuses on the new possibilities of our time. In 2018 they won the Grote Kamermuziekprijs (first prize and the audience choice award). Together with clarinettist Jelmer de Moed, he forms a permanent duo. Rik has a Steinway grand piano on loan from the Nationaal Muziekinstrumenten Fonds.
