On Sunday, October 8, Nikola Meeuwsen performs in the YPF Young Virtuosi series. At 3 p.m., he will take his seat behind Youri Egorov’s grand piano in De Duif and play the program below in this third edition of the Young Virtuosi series organized by YPF to offer young talented pianists a stage, a chance to develop further and gain experience.
Program to follow. Ticket sales open.
As a child, Nikola Meeuwsen (2002) knew he wanted to be a pianist after listening to Horowitz’s performance of Rachmaninoff’s 3rd piano concerto. Soon his enormous talent was recognized and acknowledged: from a young age, Nikola won several competitions, including the Steinway Competition in 2012 and the Royal Concertgebouw Competition in 2014. In 2019, the Concertgebouw awarded him the prestigious Concertgebouw Young Talent Award.
In the summer of 2022, Nikola put his name on the Grachtenfestival Prize, making him the youngest winner to date. As artist in residence in the 2023 edition of the Grachtenfestival, Nikola will be given carte blanche to put together a number of concerts.
As a soloist, Nikola has performed with the Residentie Orkest and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, and he has been heard in solo recitals throughout the Netherlands and abroad (including in Milan, Bologna, Trieste, Faro and Imola). He will make his recital debut at the Royal Concertgebouw in January 2024.
Nikola has been studying with Marlies van Gent and with Enrico Pace at the prestigious Accademia Pianistica di Imola since 2014. He is also studying at the Queen Elisabeth Chapel in Brussels with Frank Braley and Avedis Kouyoumdjian. He has performed as a chamber musician with the Matangi Quartet, with violinist Alexander Kerr, with violist Vladimir Mendelssohn and in piano duos with Igor Roma, Anna Fedorova, Thomas Beijer and Enrico Pace.
In 2021 the YPF launched the Young Virtuosi series for YPF laureates and top young pianists, the ‘Young Virtuosi’, in which they are given the promised opportunity through concerts and master classes to further develop their craftsmanship and bring out the best in themselves. A great success. Click here for recordings of 2021, 2022 and 2023.
The concerts will take place in De Duif at Prinsengracht 756 in Amsterdam. During the six concerts, YPF laureates and top young pianists will play on the grand piano of legendary pianist Youri Egorov, who died in Amsterdam at the age of 33
